Implants

diastema closure

An implant is a permanent tooth replacement.  When missing a tooth or having a tooth pulled an implant is used to restore form and function.  Where the replacement is taking place a titanium post is placed and a crown attached to it.  This treatment is permanent and the best alternative for teeth replacement if the individual can accept and implant.  Adequate bone and other factors are important when considering this option.  An appointment will need to set up and exam completed to give input into whether this option is right for you.

Crown and Bridge

diastema closure

A crown is a cover that restores a tooth to its normal shape size and function.  It reinforces the tooth and is used to protect a tooth from further wear, breakage and decay.

A Bridge is used to permanently fill a space.  A space may be due to a missing tooth that you were born with or a tooth in which you had to have pulled (extracted). It will permanently be placed and is attached to either tooth on each side of the missing tooth.

Partials

A removable partial denture (RPD) is an appliance worn in the mouth with the sole goal of replacing missing teeth.  It is fitted to the individuals mouth my making molds of the patients dentition and sending to a specialized laboratory.  From a prescription made by the dentist a base is made which can contain metal or no metal.  On top of this acrylic or porcelain teeth are attached.  It is fitted and stays in the mouth by attachments that hold on to the remaining teeth you still posses.

RPD are removable and are bulky to some and in most situations are an option but more permanent fixed options serve tooth replacement better.

Dentures

A Denture is made for someone who has no more teeth remaining.  Most often made of acrylic with teeth attached to them.  For better fit and staying ability they can be attached to implants by nylon snaps so they can fit nice and tight.

Root canal Therapy

A root canal is a term given to when a dentist removes the nerve of a tooth, which is found in the roots of a tooth.  A root canal is done mainly to remove an infected nerve.  A nerve can get infected by decay or cracks which get to close to the nerve that the nerve gets bacteria into them and the body tries to fight those bacteria off.  Once this happens the only thing to do is root canal the tooth to remove the dying nerve.  You will most likely be put on a course of antibiotic to help control the infection and make sure it does not spread.
